This program teaches the four main skill sets central to conflict resolution: active listening, emotional intelligence, authentic communication and collaborative problem solving.

Your program text, InJustice INACCORD, offers a roadmap for the specific skills of mediation and the specialized skills of the INACCORD Conflict Analysis System. The companion text, Touchstone Skills, offers a comprehensive set of competencies to improve your ability to communicate effectively and assertively in all situations.
The program includes weekly web-based practice sessions using a wide variety of case studies. In these sessions, you can begin by simply listening in and then move to volunteering as a disputant and eventually as a professional mediator. Each session is archived allowing you to listen at any time during the training.
Most people believe that you must be an attorney or retired judge in order to arbitrate a dispute. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the most common entry level education for this profession is a bachelor’s degree with experience in a related field such as insurance, finance or construction. As part of this program, you will learn the history, application and basic skills of arbitration. Through eight units of study, you will learn how to facilitate a hearing, weigh evidence and testimony, and render an award, all using the INACCORD Conflict Analysis system for arbitration.
INACCORD Mediator & Arbitrator Program

This three course program provides you with a 240 hour comprehensive training to become an INACCORD Professional Mediator and Arbitrator. You will learn the Mediators Without Borders INACCORD conflict resolution model which includes phases and surveys to empower the disputants and the process. It offers you web-based weekly practice where you can practice your skills through simulated role-playing case studies. This course includes 3 textbooks, Touchstone Skills™ for Authentic Communication by Murphy & Ries, In Justice, INACCORD by Ries & Harter and INACCORD® for Arbitrators by the Arbitrators Without Borders Team. These are designed to help you become a master communicator with your clients, coworkers and employees. This course includes online learning as well as a 3-day onsite course with our incredible professors.
The Certificate includes an Arbitration class that teaches you the skills of an arbitrators including facilitating a hearing, how to issue an award and ethical issues that must be followed. Upon successful completion, Mediators Without Borders will award you four individual certificates in Mediation, Applied Mediation Practice, Arbitration and an overall program certificate as an INACCORD Mediator and Arbitrator.
The online portion of the course will be held 1/2/2025-3/27/2025.
The onsite portion of the course will be held 4/4/2025-4/6/2025, at our facility, located at 4450 Arapahoe Avenue, Suite 100, Boulder, CO 80303.

601 INACCORD Mediation

Using the InAccord Conflict Analysis® model, the class employs directive, facilitative, and relational methods to create a deeply rewarding learning experience. Role-play, mentoring, and other active learning strategies bring to life theory, case studies, and the field of human relations to equip students with the foundation and actionable ability to mediate, negotiate, and conquer conflict in almost any situation.
- Students learn how disputes, power, gender, and culture inform alternative dispute resolution (ADR) interventions and prepare them to analyze unique conflict styles and the wide varieties of human interaction and personalities.
- Students learn the Touchstone Skills of questioning, reflecting, and reframing to become skilled communicators.
- Students will learn the ability to handle emotions and develop a complete mediation skillset, including the art of negotiation, timing, use of caucuses, and other techniques to deal with impasses. It also covers the standards and ethics of this growing profession for generalist practice.
605 INACCORD Mediation

This course is designed to facilitate the application of mediation skills learned in the coursework directly to cases and to facilitate the development of additional techniques. Through consultation and group conflict resolution practice, students are guided to expand their understanding of the use of relational and directive mediation techniques and interpersonal communication skills.
- Students will gain practice in facilitating the INACCORD research surveys during this practice- oriented course.
- Students take part in simulated role plays offered via teleconference and the web and have the option of combining this practice with their own cases, informal or formal, which can be brought to the faculty conflict coach for consultation.
- Students will gain advanced skills at crafting Memorandums of Agreement, recognizing and mitigating ethical dilemmas, addressing high conflict sessions, and advanced application of communication skills.
620 Arbitration

The Mediators Without Borders Arbitration course is an online self-paced class, which describes the INACCORD Arbitration process and its applications. The course will present topics such as arbitration statutes, awards, staying proceedings, costs, and fees. Issues of jurisdiction, arbitrator qualifications and duties, contract analysis, rules of evidence, admissibility, and relevance will be discussed in readings and online discussions with other students and the instructor.
- The class will cover the phases of the INACCORD model including the pre-hearing procedures, the hearing itself (including discussion of both procedure and dealing with substantive issues), the award (including issues of determination on the issue and potential remedies available, and the practical matter of writing the award), and grounds for challenging the award (including the concepts of appeal and judicial review).
- The class methodology will rely on case study evaluations to highlight unit topics including a written decision on a chosen case.
