Mesa County Makes Big Investment In Community Through Mediation Program
The Mediation Center of Mesa County in Grand Junction Colorado opened in March 2008 to help people solve various disputes without having to call law enforcement or pay an attorney. Mesa County has invested $45,000 to the community program. Laurel Jones, a mediator and psychotherapist, is the coordinator of the program which has 30 volunteer mediators.
The Center’s services are free and confidential. Referrals are received from Mesa County Code Enforcement, the Sheriff’s Department, Animal Services and the Courts. Through the program community members learn skills to solve their own problems with the help of trained mediators. The program has had success helping to resolve cases involving feuding neighbors in an apartment building, homeowners battling over a barking dog, a divorced couple fighting over parenting time schedules and numerous other disputes.
