Careers That Benefit From Mediation Skills
by Terry Young, PhD, JD, PMP
The skills learned in mediation training enhance the performance of people in any profession that relies on peoples communications skills. If you are in human resource management, counseling, management, project management, contract administration, law enforcement, or if you deliver Services, you are in a business that could benefit from mediation training.
When you learn the basic skills of mediation you are learning advanced communications skills that improve your workplace performance, even if you never perform formal mediations. Performing formal mediations well takes experience because the art of mediation includes recognizing the subtleties and nuances', or shifts, in other people's perceptions and the changes they make in what they say and how they say it.
Using the techniques you learn in training will improve your general communications skills and your conflict resolution skills, even if you choose not to perform formal mediations.
